An Engineering Geologist working in a foothill, soil and rock environment with a geotechnical background. Clientele includes public school, hospitals, public works/municipalities, mining, commercial, and residential. The Project Engineering Geologist level will manage geotechnical engineering investigations, perform engineering design, and manage construction materials testing and special inspections. The person must possess skills in problem solving, critical thinking, and must be steadfast in the execution of assigned duties. The Project Engineer/Geologist acts as the liaison between the project manager and technical disciplines involved in a project and is the primary technical point of contact for the customer. Independently performs project-related assignments. The Project Engineer/Geologist works under the supervision of a Senior Geologist, Senior Engineer, or Associate.

Responsibilities

Duties may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Develops project objectives by reviewing project proposals and plans.
  • Determines project scope by understanding client requirements, reviewing regulatory standards and preparing cost estimates.
  • Determines project schedule, coordinates resources and monitors and controls project budget.
  • Supervises field work and analyzes test results.
  • Ensures projects are completed according to contractual requirements and agreed-upon schedule.
  • Ensures overall quality of the work.
  • Coordinates the collection and dissemination of technical information within the company and to the client.
  • Maintains client relationship and appropriately manages client expectations and satisfaction.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Requires knowledge of standard engineering techniques and procedures, and professional judgment to make modifications or execute complex features or solutions.
  • Ability to review and create technical documents and interpret technical plans and specifications.
  • Ability to accurately report observations and test results through clear, concise verbal and written communications.
  • Knowledge of current regulatory requirements and industry standards for the types of projects performed.
  • Effective interpersonal communications with clients, contractors, and colleagues. Demonstrated teamwork and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and appropriate application of testing methodologies and related equipment.
  • Must have valid driver’s license and an insurable driving record.

Physical and Environmental Factors:

  • Ability to lift, carry, push and/or pull objects and materials up to 50 pounds.
  • Able to perform general office administrative activities: copying, filing, and frequent use of telephone and keyboard to communicate.
  • Able to sit and work at a computer keyboard for extended periods of time.
  • Intermittently walk, stand, kneel, bend, reach and stoop.
  • May be required to work outside normal business hours.
  • Frequent travel may be required, including out-of-town assignments.
  • Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential job functions.
  • Must adhere to Holdrege & Kull safety practices and policies.

Qualifications

Education/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering, Geology or Equivalent.
  • Professional registration.
  • 4 or more years experience in engineering and/or geology.

Certifications/Licenses:

  • Professional registration ad CA PE, PG
  • Professional registration as a CA CEG is desirable.

The pay range for this California position is $100.000.00 - $125,000.00 per year; however, base pay offered may be higher or lower depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience of the candidate. Restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered. This information is provided per California Senate Bill 1162. Base pay information is based on market location. Applicants should apply via the NV5 careers site.
